A Walk Around Little India is back for the December holidays! Don’t miss out on this opportunity in cultivating an appreciation and understanding of the Indian culture with children. Are you looking forward to making a meaningful difference through an exploration of the Indian heritage? Join us in making this a timeless walk with the children! We are looking for volunteers who are interested in engaging groups of children through various activities, by taking on the roles of a Volunteer Coordinator (VC), Volunteer Befriender (VB), Social Media Volunteer (SMV) and Station Master (SM) at Indian Heritage Centre through either role-playing featured characters or a heritage guide. Training will be provided! For VCs, SMs and SMVs, please note that signing up for the Orientation & Training (O&T) Session on 2 December 2022 is compulsory. Social Media Volunteer
Social Media Volunteers (SMV) would be required to take photos and videos during the heritage tour and the walk around Little India to capture meaningful moments between our volunteers and children clients. These visuals would hopefully encourage more youth volunteers to volunteer with children in the future!The photos may be shared with volunteers attending the event and/or published in various Youth Corps Singapore’s platforms. This includes but not limited to, Instagram/Facebook Page, newsletters, marketing collaterals, event brochures, press, and co-organiser’s social media channels.There are 2 runs for this event, on 9 Dec and 16 Dec respectively. Station Master
Station Masters (SM) will be leading activities at the respective stations at Indian Heritage Centre. This includes engaging the children through role-playing featured characters at the different sites to engage children through interactive activities. You will help the children gain a deeper appreciation of Singapore’s multicultural diversity and the unique contribution of Indians in Singapore, both past and present.Script and costumes will be provided and there will be a short dry run with inputs given by the museum docents! Volunteer Befriender
As a Volunteer Befriender (VB), you will be taking the role of a buddy to 1-2 children. Get to know the children through the museum exploration, walk around Little India, as you guide them to appreciate and be engaged in the activities, making heritage education fun for them!There are 2 runs for this event, on 9 Dec and 16 Dec respectively. Volunteer Coordinator
As a Volunteer Coordinator (VC), you will be empowered to lead a group of 5 Volunteer Befrienders (VBs) and 5 children, creating a positive volunteering experience for them.Some of your responsibilities include, but are not limited to, overseeing the group’s movements during the activities, ensuring their safety and well-being, ensuring the smooth running and timely execution of the programme, as well as liaising with YCS staff for updates or assistance. VCs will also be involved in their learning and development of their VBs by overseeing the VBs with the children and providing feedback on the VBs’ volunteering performances for their learning and growth.
