If you are keen to become a friend to families of children and youths from disadvantaged backgrounds, UPLIFT wants you! Join us today!
UPLIFT is an initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and supported by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) to strengthen support for students from disadvantaged family backgrounds.
The UPLIFT Community Network (UCN) seeks to match the needs of disadvantaged students and their families to local programmes and resources, through a Town-Level Coordinator (TLC) stationed in the Social Service Office (SSO). The UCN currently operates in Bedok/Geylang Serai, Boon Lay, Bukit Merah/Kreta Ayer, Chua Chu Kang, Punggol, Sengkang, Toa Payoh/Jalan Besar, Woodlands and Yishun.
We are calling for individuals (preferably age 35 and above) to befriend parent(s) and strengthen support for underperforming students from disadvantaged families. You should enjoy interacting with people and lending a listening ear. Once selected, the TLC will arrange opportunities for you to visit a family regularly and support them as a family friend over this one-year project. Through family befriending, we aim to help families build a more stable and conducive learning environment for their children, so that they are more motivated and engaged in school. Prior experience and skills are not needed as training will be provided after confirmation.
