The STAR Programme needs compassionate volunteers to support palliative care patients facing emotional distress and isolation. While clinical staff provide excellent medical care, time constraints limit opportunities for extended emotional support, and language or cultural barriers can create additional challenges.As a STAR volunteer, you'll offer invaluable companionship and comfort, providing the human connection that brings dignity, peace, and meaningful moments during patients' most vulnerable time. Your presence allows healthcare teams to focus on medical care whilst you address the emotional needs that matter just as much.No medical experience required - just a caring heart and willingness to listen. Training and ongoing support provided.💛 How You Will Make a DifferenceAs a STAR Volunteer, you will help to:• Porter patients to Oasis to participate in planned activities • Facilitate assigned social activities in the ward• Support patients with prescribed nursing and rehabilitation activities under supervision• Provide compassionate bedside companionship and friendship to patients🧡 Who We Are Looking ForWe welcome individuals who are:• Compassionate, patient, and comfortable offering emotional support• Able to be present with patients and families during sensitive moments• Good listeners • Able to commit to weekday shifts, Tuesdays and Thursdays for about 2 - 3 hours, twice a month, 12.30 - 3.30 pm for at least 6 months after trainingPlease note: Volunteer schedules may be subject to changes or last-minute cancellations due to patients' medical conditions and care needs. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as patient wellbeing remains our top priority.
