Teh Tarik Session - Displacement & Resettlement: Home in SG
By Youth Corps Singapore

ABOUT
  • Join us as we delve deeper into the topic of relocation in Singapore using film and essays as a medium for conversation. Relocation is a largely ignored issue in Singapore, but it is not merely a matter of moving between houses but rather between homes. This informative session seeks to shed light on broader social issues related to relocation & resettlement of communities within Singapore. Join us for a behind-the-scenes look at the Dakota Relocation through a short-film screening. Following which, join the editor and academic essayist behind They Told Us to Move: Dakota - Cassia, a book project which documents and reflects on the relocation of a group of mostly elderly, public rental flat residents from Dakota Crescent to Block 52, Cassia Crescent.

Come hear their experiences grappling with this issue of relocation. Join the conversation as we question the meanings of homes, community and service, and consider meaningful ways each of us can step forward to contribute to the communities we are part of.

    Programme Outline:

7.00pm-7:30pm: Registration & Exploration of Topic

    7.30pm-8.00pm: Documentary Screening of Relocation

    8:00pm-8.30pm: Sharing from Guest Speakers

    8.30pm-9.00pm: Discussion & Q&A

    Guest Speaker:

Lim Jingzhou, Head, Cassia Resettlement Team

Currently, he is the Head and Co-Founder of the Cassia Resettlement Team, and he also supports Hello Dawson. Both projects were formed to support residents who are affected by involuntary public housing relocation. He is also contributor and co-editor of the book “They Told Us To Move: Dakota - Cassia”.
