      • Empower Seniors with English is a 4-session programme that aims to break language barriers to facilitate intergenerational bonding, through learning English with seniors.

        This opportunity is brought to you by the Youth Corps Development Team (Care Corner) in partnership with REACH AAC.

Volunteer Befriender

Your role as a Volunteer Befriender is to:

  1. Support & encourage the seniors as they learn a new language :) Profile of the seniors ranges, but most only know basic English.
  2. Practise with them by having conversations in English, & translate for them where needed.

Requirements (Please read before applying):

  • Age range: 17-35 years old
  • Bilingual in both Mandarin Chinese AND English.
  • Experience with befriending would be a bonus!
  • Available to commit to a mandatory Orientation & Training (O&T), & 3-4 befriending sessions (as you will be buddied up with preferably the same senior):
    1. O&T: 27 Jun 2024, 2-3pm (online)
    2. Session #1: Fri 5 Jul, 1.30-4pm
    3. Session #2: Fri 12 Jul, 1.30-4pm
    4. Session #3: Fri 26 Jul, 1.30-4pm
    5. Session #4: Fri 2 Aug, 1.30-4pm

Befriending Location: 20 Jln Membina, Singapore 164020 (Residents' Committee)

Volunteer Coordinator

Your role as a Volunteer Coordinator (VC) is to, with the support of the YCD team, is to:

  • Co-create the curriculum's activities and logistics for the programme!
  • Facilitate briefings and debriefs.
  • Lead and ensure smooth operations of the weekly sessions.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of the seniors and volunteers.

Requirements (Please read before applying):

  • Age range: 17-35 years old
  • Bilingual in both Mandarin Chinese AND English.
  • Experience with linguistics or teaching would be a big bonus!
  • Available to commit to a mandatory Orientation & Training (O&T), & all 4 befriending sessions:
    1. O&T: 27 Jun 2024, 2-3pm (online)
    2. Session #1: Fri 5 Jul, 1.30-4pm
    3. Session #2: Fri 12 Jul, 1.30-4pm
