On 8th June every year, people around the world celebrate World Oceans Day. This special occasion serves as a rallying point for individuals and communities to appreciate the importance of our blue planet and come together to take action to promote marine conservation. We are also reminded of the threats and pressures our oceans face. As we reap the benefits bestowed by the oceans, we have unfortunately lost around 35% of critical marine habitats (coral reefs, seagrasses and mangroves) globally.
Today’s youths will inherit our planet and it is important for us to protect the marine environment together. The theme of World Oceans Day 2020 is “Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean”. How can youths be a catalyst of innovation for our oceans? How can we innovate in our conservation, research, outreach and engagement efforts? How would you like to be a part of it?
Keen to know more on how YOUths can contribute to Singapore’s marine conservation effort or have burning questions to ask? Join us for an evening of conversation on “Youth Action for Marine Conservation” as we hear from our youths their experiences as in marine conservation and research:
The discussion will be moderated by Ms Cheo Pei Rong, Senior Manager (Biodiversity), National Parks Board (NParks)
