ABOUT
  • Look into the lenses of seniors’ lives and empower them with Project AL:PHA (Active Lenses: Photographing Humanely Aspects)!

    Project AL:PHA hopes to provide seniors with the opportunity to use photography as a means of self-expression, reflection and intergenerational connections, with your volunteering support.

    As a volunteer, you will engage seniors in reflective storytelling through photography walks, enhancing their well-being holistically and delaying cognitive degeneration. You will also hear the seniors’ life stories, which give you a chance to gain their wise insights while promoting a sense of social connectedness and community for them.

    The dates for this programme are:

    • 29 Nov 2023 (Orientation and Training)

    • 30 Nov, 1 Dec, 7 Dec & 8 Dec 2023 


    Project AL:PHA has 2 available roles:

    • Volunteer Befriender (VB)

    • Volunteer Coordinator (VC)

Volunteer Befriender

As a Volunteer Befriender for Project AL:PHA, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of seniors through mobile photography trails and digital scrapbooking. You will build lasting relationships through befriending and engaging in meaningful conversations and reflective storytelling with the seniors. There will be compulsory training provided for volunteers, and volunteers will be supported throughout their journey in Project AL:PHA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist seniors during photography sessions and captioning of photos in their digital scrapbooks.
  • Engaging seniors in conversations. 
  • Check in with seniors on their experiences during the activities.

The dates are as follows:

1. Orientation & Training (O&T) [Shift 1]

Time: 3pm - 6pm

2. Sessions [Shift 2 - 5]
Dates: 30 Nov, 1 Dec, 7 Dec, 8 Dec 2023
Time: 2.30pm - 5.30pm

Volunteer befrienders are required to go for the orientation and training (shift 1) but are welcome to sign up for any session shifts (shifts 2-5) according to their flexibility and comfort. We also prefer volunteers who have a laptop/tablet that they can bring.

Volunteer Coordinator

As a Volunteer Coordinator for Project AL:PHA, you will play a crucial role in helping to support and manage our team of Volunteer Befrienders. Your main responsibility will be to ensure that the seniors receive the best possible support and companionship from our volunteers, and ensuring the Volunteer Befrienders are taken care of as well.

You will gain valuable skills in leadership, project management, and communication. You will also have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of seniors in our community and to help bridge the gap between generations.

A group of Volunteer Coordinators will manage a team of Volunteer Befrienders.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and lead group bonding and debrief sessions.
  • Prepare and lead for the 3 different trails.
  • Support in the management of volunteer befrienders.
